Face it. Most people are dead.

When’s the last time you’ve felt truly alive? For many people, it’s been years.  They gave up on their dream along time ago. As a result, they’re only going though the motions.

Much like “Red” in The Shawshank Redemption they no longer have any use for HOPE. Honestly, it’s no longer part of their vocabulary. It’s too painful. Remember the dialogue between Andy and Red? That was painful to watch:

Andy: “Here’s where it makes most sense. We need it so we don’t forget.”

Red: “Forget?”

Andy: “That there are things in this world not carved out of gray stone. There’s a small place inside of us they can never lock away, and that place is called hope.”(Tweet This or Share on Facebook)

Red: “Hope is a dangerous thing. Drive a man insane. It’s got no use on the inside. Better get used to the idea.”

Get busy living or get busy dying…

Unlike “Red,” Andy doesn’t give up on hope or his dreams for that matter. All over this world, brave souls are following in the footsteps of Andy. They’re making a bold move. They’re getting busy living. The funny thing is very soon this choice may no longer seem so bold. Exchanging your day job for your dream job may soon seem like the most logical choice available. As normal as breathing air and eating food.

When you look at your options stacked alongside each other, the choice seems pretty simple:

Day Job to Dream Job

But just because the choice is simple doesn’t mean it’s easy. Most of us have been conditioned to play not to lose instead of playing to win. We fixate on what we might lose rather than what we could gain. We settle for slow death rather than abundant life.

The other night I saw a documentary called directed by Grant Peelle called: I’m Fine, Thanks. One of my friends/clients (Jon Giganti) who attended the Igniting Souls conference last week told me about it. When I saw it I wasn’t shocked in the slightest. In fact, I agreed with most of it. And rather than being inspired, I felt validated and encouraged. 

After all, this is the journey I’ve taken. And this is the logic I ascribe to. See, most of us have been handed a faulty belief that you pick a business and then try to squeeze life into the remaining margins. I don’t buy it. I believe something completely different…that you design your life and then build a business around it.
